Restless Resting

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NLT

Restless and resting are not mutually exclusive.

I can’t remember the last time I or my wife slept through the night. Whether I keep her awake or she does me, we haven’t figured out. If I sleep on my back, I snore. Occasionally she will punch me and tell me to turn over. Her restlessness is more severe. Suffering from herniated disks in her neck and back, a torn rotary cuff, and degenerative arthritis makes it almost impossible for her to get comfortable and sleep for any length of time. I’m sure her tossing and turning affect my sleep patterns. Regardless of our restlessness, however, we choose to remain in bed together and rest in each other’s arms. Read more...

Flashback Friday - Tired of Corn Flakes - Martin Wiles

Tired of Corn Flakes

They were the breakfast of champions…at least for her. Every morning, my great grandmother would pour a bowl of Kellogg’s® Corn Flakes, slice a banana over them, and douse them with milk. Then she’d sit down for what she never tired of. 

I never cared much for Corn Flakes. Bland and tasteless…unless I added a little sugar. Even then I’d tire of them quickly if I had to stomach them every morning. But I’m that way with most breakfast foods. After a few days of the same thing, I’m ready for a change. Read more...
