Responding to Fear

The banging and clanging startled me from a restless sleep. I knew all too well what was happening.

I’ve seen their claw marks on trees, crouched in fear as they raided nearby campsites, walked up on one with cubs, and read signs warning of their presence. Black bears are no friends to campers and hikers. While a black bear’s natural response to human presence should be fear, negligence on the part of too many campers has often removed that fear.
