Love Rescues

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. (NIV)

I’m afraid of water and have been since I was eight years old. I was with friends at a neighbor’s pool floating on an inner tube. They wanted to go to the deep end and I didn’t so I held tightly to the pool’s edge. As the inner tube moved farther away I slid off into the water. I knew I was a goner, so I just waited for death to arrive. Fortunately one of my friends jumped in and rescued me. I’ve had no use for water since then, and I never learned to swim. God is in the rescue business too, and his is life saving as well. Sin kills us spiritually but through the grace of his forgiveness, he saves us from eternal separation from him. God reaches down. All that he requires of us is to reach up.
