Love’s Power

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (NLT)

Dull knives are of little use. Occasionally when on sale, my wife and I will buy a whole pork loin, and I’ll slice it into chops. It’s a fairly simple job made easier by partially freezing the loin before slicing. But this painless job can quickly become painstakingly difficult if the knife I’m using is dull. God’s Word is the believer’s knife or sword. A double edged sword is more effective since it can slice with both edges. When read and meditated upon, God’s Word has a slicing affect. Its teachings penetrate our soul-the seat of our mind, will and emotions. The soul or spirit is who we truly are. God’s teachings will transform our inside that no one sees but will then result in a changed outside which everyone observes. God’s Word confronts our innermost thoughts and desires and makes us consider whether they align with God’s standards. God’s love shown through his Word is powerful.
